Holding out for Nikon D3X

I have a Nikon D2x. It rocks. I've loved it since day 1 (in 2005). I've shot thousands of frames and delivered some decent images.

On The Market Value of a Brand

Sandro Groganz has an interesting post where he attempts to calculate the value of the MySQL brand as a component of the acquisition price Sun paid. Here's the punch line: "As of today, a whopping 85% of MySQL’s economic value added can be attributed to its strong Open Source brand." I haven't checked Sandro's math in detail, but it's clear that brand is a huge component of the value of MySQL."

MySQL's Day in the Sun

So Sun has acquired MySQL

I think it’s great news for all involved, and for the open source industry in general, and for the global LAMP tribe in particular.

This acquisition seems very likely to be one part of a Sun initiative to get back in the middle of the web technology universe. They will continue to invest heavily in the LAMP stack and further integrate it with the Java stack in bid to achieve a superhybrid stack. LAMP and Java each have their own global tribe of users with distinct cultures and preferences. Based on my recent conversations with customers and years of experience, there is a lot of potential in this area. I’ll write more about this soon.
