The Google data shows what terms people are searching for (on Google) whereas the Twitter data shows what terms people are talking about (on Twitter). There could be lots of reasons for differences between the two data sets. That's why I include both of them on the Drupal Economic Indicators page.

There are lots of ways to twist and misinterpret data. But having data is usually better than having no data in the long run. So my approach is to just be careful about reaching overly broad conclusions for any particular data set, and try to look for big trends that show up across multiple data sets.
