FINALLY: Office 2008 Service Pack Fixes Font Issue

Office 2008 for Mac just updated itself with a service pack that fixed the issue with third party fonts. Adobe Myriad Pro is our corporate font at Acquia. This is something we share with Adobe itself and Apple, which is a good cohort to be in. So the fact that Powerpoint 2008 could not display Myriad Pro properly was a show stopper. Word could display the fonts just fine. Only Powerpoint was affected. Weird.

In the period before the fix, I gave some serious effort to using Keynote but came away disillusioned by the massive file sizes, myriad UI oddities, and the spotty fidelity for export to Powerpoint. It just wasn't worth the hassle. So it was back to the dog slow Powerpoint 2004 or onto Office 2007 on XP on VMWare.

So back to Powerpoint I go, not out of any particular love for it, but out of necessity. It's the lingua franca of tech marketing.
