Found! Drupal Tweet Charts

By Jeff Whatcott - Posted on 05 May 2008

In a recent post, I complained that Summize doesn't provide trend charts. Chuck sent me a link to Flaptor's Twist, which does.

Pretty cool. I've added it to the Drupal Economic Indicators page for future reference.

It's not surprising that Wordpress generates more Tweets than Drupal given the broad usage of Wordpress.com. I'm just glad that a) there seems to be plenty of chatter out there about Drupal and b) most of it seems to be positive.

Hi,

this chart looks quite different in the "interpretation" given by google:
http://www.google.com/trends?q=wordpress%2C+drupal%2C+joomla

I don't know if there is a english idiom for: don't beliefe a statistic, you did not fake yourself.
;)

The Google data shows what terms people are searching for (on Google) whereas the Twitter data shows what terms people are talking about (on Twitter). There could be lots of reasons for differences between the two data sets. That's why I include both of them on the Drupal Economic Indicators page.

There are lots of ways to twist and misinterpret data. But having data is usually better than having no data in the long run. So my approach is to just be careful about reaching overly broad conclusions for any particular data set, and try to look for big trends that show up across multiple data sets.

I think it's pretty safe to assume that the Twitter stats demonstrate interest from early adopters, mavericks and cool people who dress snappily while writing brilliant code; the google stats demonstrate the interests of the "norms." ;)
