Openads Becomes OpenX - Drupal Powered Site Looks Mighty Fine

By Jeff Whatcott - Posted on 15 February 2008

Open source advertising software leader Openads rebranded themselves as OpenX this week. They recently raised $15.5 million in their “B” round, and it looks like they are expanding their business into more services, including a hosted version.

Things seem to be really rocking over there.
Matt Asay rightly gushed about the Drupal-powered OpenX site saying, “It’s one of the freshest designs I’ve seen in a long, long time.”

I always love to see a well-implemented Drupal site getting its due.
By the way, there has been an OpenX module for Drupal for quite a while now, and I hear good things about it.

I like this design a lot.

You know, I’ve seen a lot of interest from business clients in Drupal. But many can’t implement it. Good time for Acquia to arrive!

wow... i thing this is a new level of development for open-source project. i'm using openads for a long time, and i like this news.

Hi,

We at OpenX really love Drupal and have been having lots of fun ever since switching over. Its amazing for customizing and extending, and it seems like it really allows for an easy install and get-going experience for basic users.

We're wanting to extend our modules/plugins for different CMS's including drupal and are interested in users' opinions and testing, if anyone is interested in helping out please watch out for announcements on development with your CMS of choice, like:

Openads just changed its name to OpenX. OpenadsX is one of my top open-source software picks, given its potential to roil the ad server business. With its competitors (like DoubleClick/Google) taking 40 percent to 50 percent of a Web site's advertising revenue, the company's model of charging peanuts to advertisers to source publishers is a big boon to content publishers, 30,000 of which have signed up to use OpenX.

But after talking with publishers, Openads decided that it could provide more value than advertising revenue.

What will that value be? I have no idea, but if it sees the same sort of traction that Openads did with Web publishers, it should be big. I'm hoping to catch up soon with OpenX's founder, Scott Switzer, to see what he and the team have in mind.

There are many reasons you may need to know the value of your business -- if you are considering buying a business, a merger or outright sale, for tax or loan purposes, or for estate planning. Whatever the reason for needing to know this information, trying to come up with a valid figure can be a major effort and challenge.

Pricing a business too high can result in the business not being sold for a long period of time; sometimes not at all. If the business owner eventually adjusts the price to how the market is responding, the deal will often be tainted with the view that something is wrong with the business or that the owner is desperate, possibly resulting in an even lower business appraisal than it would have originally been valued at.

great step forward for OpenX.
Drupal is so trust worthy to do business over it

That really is a great step forward for OpenX. It seems only a matter of time before Drupal makes a run at google for something.
